Doctors said I couldn’t conceive – I went on weight loss jabs to move on with my life and fell pregnant within WEEKS

Danielle Spink was told she’d stopped ovulating. She started Mounjaro to focus on herself, lost two stone, then discovered she was expecting. She’s back on the jabs six weeks after giving birth.

Danielle Spink had been told she could not conceive.

After two miscarriages and more than a year of trying, she and her husband Stefan decided to stop.

She started taking Mounjaro to focus on her health instead.

Within weeks of reaching her goal weight, she was pregnant.

Her son Marcus is now six weeks old. Spink went back on Mounjaro four weeks after he was born.

The internet has had things to say about that.

Two miscarriages and a wrong diagnosis

Spink, 44, from Thaxted in Essex, was already a mother of four when she met Stefan, 41, in 2022. They started trying for a baby in October 2023.

She fell pregnant two months later and miscarried at six weeks.

After months of further attempts, doctors told her she had stopped ovulating and would not be able to conceive.

A second opinion later proved that diagnosis wrong. New tests showed she was still ovulating. The couple tried again for six months. Nothing happened.

They set a deadline: if she was not pregnant by June 2025, they would stop for good.

In the meantime, Spink started Mounjaro in February 2025. She lost two stone, dropped from a size 18 to a size 10, and her migraines stopped.

In April, she missed a period. She assumed it was stress. Her mother had just been diagnosed with cancer.

“I decided to test and it was positive,” she told CreatorZine.

“We were shocked and this time I couldn’t help but think that Mounjaro has played a part. Not only had I got to my goal weight but my migraines had stopped, inflammation had reduced and hormones had levelled.”

‘In my mind, I wouldn’t have gotten pregnant without the jabs’

Spink stopped Mounjaro immediately after discovering the pregnancy. She gained 2.5 stone carrying Marcus and delivered by caesarean. Four weeks after his birth, she restarted the jabs. She has since lost 15lbs and is aiming to lose a total of 3.5 stone.

She breastfed Marcus for two weeks before switching to bottle feeding, a decision she says was personal and unrelated to the medication.

“He’s hungry and I knew bottle feeding would suit my husband and me better. It never impacted us being able to bond.”

‘Someone said I should be sterilised’

The backlash arrived quickly. Spink says she has been told she cares more about her appearance than her baby, that she is a disgrace, and that she should be sterilised.

“A friend of a friend commented that I cared more about my appearance than my baby by stopping breastfeeding just so I could get back on Mounjaro,” she said.

“On my social media, someone commented that I was a disgrace, didn’t deserve children and that I should be sterilised.”

She says the comments hurt initially but no longer bother her.

“These people don’t know me. Their judgmental, unfounded view of me without knowing anything about me shouldn’t matter. I eat healthily, take extra vitamins and will exercise as soon as I’m given the all clear after my c-section.”

More than weight loss

Spink says the Mounjaro is not purely cosmetic. Her migraines returned after she stopped the jabs during pregnancy. So did back pain and brain fog.

At 44, with a newborn and four older children, she says the energy boost matters as much as the number on the scale.

“When he’s running around in a year I’ll be 45 and I know the weight loss will give me more energy,” she said.

“So many people focus on the weight loss of obese women but there are so many women like me that are forgotten about who are struggling, especially in menopause and perimenopause. We get overlooked, when it definitely impacts our health both physically and mentally.”

Why it matters

Spink’s story sits at the intersection of several conversations that are happening loudly online right now: weight loss drugs, maternal health, breastfeeding choices, and the judgment women face for any postpartum decision that does not match someone else’s idea of what a good mother looks like.

The trolls are predictable. What is more interesting is the number of women in similar situations who see themselves in Spink’s experience, women carrying a stubborn two or three stone who do not qualify for the empathy typically reserved for more dramatic weight loss stories.

Spink is right that they are frequently overlooked. Whether Mounjaro genuinely contributed to her fertility is a medical question she cannot answer definitively, but the timeline is hard to ignore.

She stopped trying, started the jabs, lost the weight, and conceived within weeks.

Marcus is here. The ring on the scale is moving again. The comments section can say what it likes.
