A stranger told Maeurn Smiles to keep sending him explicit videos or he’d show her Catholic family the one she’d already sent.
She was 17. He leaked it anyway.
That was the worst week of her life. It was also, by her own account, the beginning of everything.

Smiles, now 25, earns around £50,000 a month from OnlyFans.
She has 3.4 million followers on @maeurn.tv, a £220,000 home on an Indonesian island, and a four-bedroom house in the Philippines she built for her parents.
None of it existed five years ago.
The video she sent to a stranger
When she joined OnlyFans in 2020, she didn’t know how the money worked.
So she did what a lot of people do when they don’t know the rules. She improvised.
“I was hustling money and messaging people to buy my content because I didn’t really know how to make money at that time,” she said.
One of those people asked for a video. She sent it, assuming he was a genuine fan.
He wasn’t.
“He didn’t pay and used it against me and said if I didn’t send him more videos then he would send it to my family,” Smiles said.
“My family didn’t know at that point and they’re catholic. I was so scared because I was super young.”
She didn’t send more. He posted it regardless.
A week in bed, then a decision
“At first, I was so hurt and I stayed in bed for a week,” she said.
Then something shifted. The thing she’d been most afraid of had already happened, which meant it had stopped being a threat.
“It was out there already, it couldn’t hurt me anymore and I may as well give it a go.”
Her family, the part of the story she’d been protecting, surprised her.
“My family were shocked but they supported me.”
Before the money
The poverty in Smiles’s story isn’t decoration. She grew up in a wooden hut.
When the landowner decided to sell, the family had to move on.
“It was hard and I had to leave school because we had no money,” she said.
She found work as an online English teacher for students in China, putting in 10 to 12-hour days. It wasn’t enough.
The maths of that life didn’t add up no matter how many hours she poured into it.
Then the pandemic arrived, OnlyFans took off, and she watched other creators reportedly pulling in sums she’d never seen.
She decided to try.
What £50k a month buys
The £220,000 island home is hers. The £75,000 house in the Philippines is for her parents, four bedrooms, the kind of place that would have been unimaginable to the girl in the wooden hut.
Her mother, it turns out, is her biggest fan.
“They’re so supportive and my mum loves it when people say they’ve seen her daughter doing amazing things online,” Smiles said.
“If anyone says anything negative, she defends me.”
The work itself is less about content than conversation.
Smiles sells what she calls the “girlfriend experience” – daily messages, the small intimacies of a relationship that isn’t one.
“My subscribers would tell me that they love having that girlfriend experience with me because I’m this cute girl living in the Philippines,” she said.
“I talk to them every day, sending them snaps saying, ‘How are you babe? Are you doing well?’ I tell them about what I eat and my day to day life. And it’s just super fun because it’ll make their day.”
Why it matters
Smiles’s story is the kind the creator economy loves to tell about itself: the rags-to-island-property arc, proof that anyone with a phone can rewrite their circumstances.
What gets quietly folded into the inspirational version is how she got there.
The launchpad wasn’t a viral post. It was a crime committed against a teenager.
The blackmail of young creators, particularly those new to adult platforms and unsure of the rules, is one of the industry’s persistent and least discussed problems.
Smiles came out the other side and built a fortune. Most who go through it don’t end up with a headline and a house.
What she does next will likely look like more of the same – more property, more subscribers, more of the daily messaging that keeps the whole thing running.
The interesting question isn’t whether she’ll keep earning.
It’s how many young creators will read her story, see the £50k and the four bedrooms, and miss the part where it started with someone trying to ruin her.
