After disability ended my career, my twins coached me on OnlyFans – now I earn six figures from a VAN

Pamela Burch, 46, lost her career to an inherited nerve condition. Her twin daughters coached her onto OnlyFans – now she earns six figures living in a van.

Pamela Burch’s OnlyFans account had two business advisers before it had a single subscriber.

Both were her daughters.

The 46-year-old from Canada launched her adult content page at the end of 2023, aged 43, after Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) forced her out of her job as an educational assistant.

Her 25-year-old twins, Julia and Lauren Burch, already made a living as content creators.

They set up her account, took her photos and used their own platforms to build her an audience before she posted a thing.

Posting as Phoenix Moon (@phoenixmoon_rising), Pamela now says content creation is her main job and brings in a six-figure annual income, as reported by Creatorzine.

The disability payments that didn’t stretch far enough

CMT, an inherited condition that damages the nerves in the arms and legs, ended a career Pamela loved.

Then her engagement ended too.

“A physical disability ended my career and severely limited other options, and then I left my fiancé shortly afterwards,” she said.

“The money from disability insurance was not nearly enough to support me living on my own.”

OnlyFans had crossed her mind before. Confidence was the missing piece.

“I’d been thinking about joining OnlyFans for a while, but I hadn’t had the confidence to take that step,” she said.

“A few major changes in my life gave me the push to finally give it a try.”

Her daughters had no doubts. “They were confident that it would provide me with enough income to support myself,” Pamela said.

‘What if I’m too old?’

She had plenty.

“I was so nervous. I was worrying thinking ‘what if I’m too old, I’m not model material, what will my family and friends think?’” she said.

“But my daughters helped me build a strong following through their platforms before my launch. Once I saw the money rolling in, my worries started to settle.”

Money has a way of doing that.

The twins who wrote the training manual

Julia, who has 2m Instagram followers at @juliaaburch, says financial stability and the chance of a more creative life drew her mum in.

The twins didn’t stop at encouragement. They ran what amounted to a crash course.

“Lauren and I helped set up her account, showed her how to use it, and taught her best practices to run it,” Julia said.

“We helped her take some photos for the account as well!”

She thinks the work has changed her mum.

“It’s definitely helped her confidence. Part of being an online creator is learning to not care about what other people think.”

Julia sees nothing strange in a mother and her daughters working in the same industry.

“I think it’s super cool to have my mom working in the same industry as me. We’ve always been super close, so it doesn’t feel weird to me. Lauren and I are both just proud of her.”

Friends, family and first dates

The backlash Pamela braced for mostly never came.

“There are random negative comments online which are pretty rare. I just ignore them,” she said.

“My friends and family have been surprisingly supportive, which I’m so grateful for.”

After three years single, she has started dating again. The men, it turns out, are the relaxed ones.

“I think having an OF makes me feel more uncomfortable than it does for the men I’ve dated,” she said.

“They have all been supportive of it so far.”

‘We’re told we expire after 40’

Pamela has little patience for the idea that women should quietly shelve their sexuality at a certain age, and she thinks that stigma stops people doing what they actually want.

“There’s a lot that society tells women they should or shouldn’t do, and a lot of shame that people want to put on you if you move outside of those parameters,” she said.

“I think it’s bulls**t that we’re told we expire after 40. I say break free from that cage. We are beautiful, sexual beings and pleasure is our birthright no matter how old we are.

“If you want to share your beautiful body publicly, whether you’re a mom or even a grandmother, you should feel free to do so.”

Life on the road

The account started as a way to pay the bills. It now funds a life Pamela lives full time in a van, travelling across North America.

“Overall, it has been a part of my journey toward self-worth, funny or ironic as that might seem to some people,” she said.

“I have learned to truly value myself, so I no longer waste time negotiating with people who don’t.”

Why it matters

Pamela’s story turns the usual creator origin tale upside down.

The kids built the brand, then handed the playbook to their mum.

For a growing number of families, creator work now passes between generations like a trade, with followers in place of tools.

It also lands as more creators over 40 find paying audiences on subscription platforms, a corner of the industry that long assumed its talent had a shelf life.

Pamela has a van, a six-figure income and two in-house consultants.

The open question is how far she’ll drive with them.
