Inés Gómez Mont spent five years protesting her innocence from just about everywhere except Mexico.
On 30 October, US authorities found her in Miami.
The 43-year-old TV host, actress and model, who once proposed to NFL legend Tom Brady, faces accusations of organised crime, money laundering, operations with funds of illicit origin and tax fraud.
Mexican prosecutors claim she used a network of shell companies to divert nearly $160m in public funds.
She remains in US custody pending immigration proceedings and formal extradition requests, as reported by Creatorzine.
How the TV star and her husband fled Mexico

Prosecutors made their accusations in September 2021. Gómez Mont did not stick around to answer them.
The mother of six left the country that month with her husband, lawyer Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, and their family.
For the next five years, the couple hid abroad, out of reach of Mexican law enforcement.
In Mexico, he’s known as the “King of the Invoice Mills”.
He reached Miami custody first. ICE detained him there in 2025.
The Interpol decision Mexico’s president slammed

In September this year, Interpol lifted its international red notices against the couple.
President Claudia Sheinbaum criticised the move heavily.
It changed less than it seemed. The arrest warrants in Mexico stayed active throughout, and a month later, Gómez Mont was in handcuffs.
What she told her 2.5m Instagram followers

Weeks after the warrants landed in 2021, Gómez Mont posted a statement to her 2.5m Instagram followers on 14 October.
“I have faith that the truth will continue to come out and our innocence will be demonstrated,” she wrote.
“I repeat and stand by it: I am innocent, and this is an injustice.
“They want to shut me up, but I will continue to raise my voice with all my might.”
She raised it from abroad.
Why It Matters

Anyone with a following knows the reflex under pressure.
Post first. Gómez Mont did, firmly and publicly, to an audience bigger than most creators will ever reach.
But an Instagram statement carries no weight with a prosecutor, and a follower count has never stopped a warrant.
Her case also shows how famous fugitives get caught now.
Both she and her husband ended up in US immigration custody rather than through Interpol, the system built for exactly this sort of thing.

What happens next for Inés Gómez Mont
Mexico wants her back, and the extradition process will decide whether it gets her.
Whether her followers hear from her before a Mexican court does is another matter.
