My card got declined after I filled up my car – then Molly-Mae Hague paid and refused a PENNY back

A stranded Kent mum broke down in tears when Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague paid for her petrol after her card was declined, then refused to be paid back.

Timney Moy Mills had a full tank, a screaming son and a card the till wouldn’t take.

Then Molly-Mae Hague stepped in.

The Love Island star, 27, paid for the fuel at a Manchester petrol station on 31 October and wouldn’t let the 33-year-old give her a penny back.

“I was stressed,” Timney, from Kent, told Creatorzine.

“I felt sick as they wouldn’t accept a payment over the phone from my family.

“I had the wrong card and was miles from home. My son was screaming.”

Full tank, wrong card, no way out

Timney had travelled up to visit a relative.

She filled the car to the max first and found out about the card second, which is the order nobody recommends.

Staff wouldn’t take payment from her family over the phone.

She was still ringing round for someone who could help when the former Love Islander covered the bill herself.

“When she stepped in, I was in tears. So grateful,” Timney said.

“I couldn’t believe my luck.”

‘She would not accept’

Timney tried to settle up on the spot.

“I asked to bank transfer her something or anything at all, but she would not accept,” she said.

She later posted a clip about the encounter, and it has now passed 883,000 views.

Most people would file it under random acts of kindness.

Timney has a different explanation.

“I am a holy person, and I believe God put her there for me,” she said.

“Also, I help people all the time, and I believe kindness follows kindness. I don’t mean financially, just in general.”

Why It Matters

Critics have spent years calling Molly-Mae out of touch, most loudly after her 2022 “same 24 hours” comments about success.

A stranger’s video of her quietly paying for someone’s petrol does more for that reputation than anything her own team could post, precisely because her own team didn’t post it.

Audiences now trust what other people say about creators far more than what creators say about themselves, and celebrity kindness caught in the wild has become a viral genre of its own.

Molly-Mae hasn’t spoken publicly about the forecourt rescue.

Timney, meanwhile, owes her one full tank of petrol and has no way of paying it back.
