Scarlett Jones was 19, Catholic and halfway through a law degree when she took a trial shift at a Sheffield strip club.
She owns two houses now. She bought the second one for her parents.
Nothing in her upbringing pointed towards the club.
Jones, now based in Cambridge, was in her second year and had never pictured herself dancing for money.

“I was a virgin when I started stripping and had been a very good Catholic girl until that point,” she said, as reported by Creatorzine.
“I was studying for a law degree, so dancing was completely different from the life I thought I was going to have.”
She stayed anyway. By her account, the comfort arrived immediately.
“This is my calling”
Jones now jokes that the job found her rather than the other way round.
“At school, we had nuns come in to talk about vocations and how you would receive a calling,” she said.
“This is my calling. What can I say?”
University had been lonely. The club was not.
“I didn’t make many friends at university, but suddenly I had so many girlfriends in the strip club,” she said.
“It felt like getting paid to go on a night out, while the sex-work community was accepting in a way that wider society often isn’t.
I really valued that lack of judgement because I felt as though I could be myself.”
Doing the maths at 21
The money arrived faster than anything a graduate scheme was going to offer, according to Jones.
“I remember being about 21 and thinking that people on my university course might have to work for 15 years to earn what I was making,” she said.
“Having that financial freedom so young was incredible because it gave me choices I had never imagined growing up.”
She finished the degree regardless. People told her the law course had been a waste of money. She sat the exams.
Twelve-hour nights and two jobs
Jones grew up in a working-class town in Derbyshire, watching her father work night shifts and her mother hold down two jobs.
She describes the childhood as a happy one. It still left a debt she wanted to settle.
“My parents weren’t in poverty, but they never had much spare cash and they worked incredibly hard for everything they had,” she said.
“Rightly or wrongly, I felt as though I needed to find a way to get them into a better situation.”
She says she bought her first home at around 22.
The second came years later, after she moved into OnlyFans and spent two years travelling, paid for out of savings and handed to her parents.
She also learned how quickly the job followed her into every room.
“Women are pigeonholed because of one job they have done, even when they have so much more to offer,” she said.
The degree she is still paying for
Jones was the first in her family to go to university, something her parents treated as the only reliable route out.
The loan has outlasted the ambition. She says the balance is now higher than it was on graduation day, despite years of payments.
“I finished my law degree, but the career I chose gave me the freedom to own my home, travel and support my family,” she said.
“Buying my parents a house is something I’m far prouder of than following the path everyone originally expected me to take.”
Why It Matters
Jones represents a route into the creator economy that rarely gets written up honestly: adult work as the funding mechanism, not the endpoint.
Her platform following, reported at more than 567,000 on Instagram at the time of the interview, was built after the income, not before it.
For creators watching the standard advice cycle of build-audience-then-monetise, the sequence matters.
The money came from a room in Sheffield. The audience came later.
The wider shift is visible across the sector, with adult platforms increasingly functioning as capital for creators who then diversify into brand work, property or other businesses entirely.
What Jones adds to that picture is the graduate-debt angle, and a student loan balance that has grown while she has been buying houses outright.
Whether the law degree ever gets used is a question she has not answered.
The loan statements will keep arriving either way.
