I buy posh mayonnaise but never eat it – my bedroom reeks of egg and my hair looks like RAPUNZEL’S

Creator Vicky DeRosa, 61, spends a fortune on high-end mayonnaise and never eats a spoonful. She slathers it on her hair overnight and says the results beat coconut oil.

Vicky DeRosa buys the expensive mayonnaise.

The good stuff, fewest ingredients possible. None of it goes near a sandwich.

The 61-year-old content creator scoops it out by hand and works it through her blonde hair instead, then sleeps in it.

Her pillowcases smell of egg by morning. She keeps a stock of them in rotation.

“I walk around smelling like salad dressing,” the VWell Health founder told Creatorzine.

“But then again, everyone loves salad dressing.”

Why a 61-year-old creator sleeps in condiments

Vicky splits her year between Athens and Los Angeles, and tests natural beauty products on herself before she recommends anything.

The goal is looking younger for longer.

“I use myself as a guinea pig to see how things work,” she said.

“I had tried eggs before, but they get too stiff. But mayonnaise is so much easier to apply.”

The appeal is protein. Mayonnaise is egg-based, and hair needs protein – though Vicky is firm that the source matters.

“The thing with protein, which a lot of people don’t realise, is that women with blonde hair shouldn’t use a lot of products with this in,” she said.

“Though this only applies to over-the-counter items. It’s really bad and can break the hair. But natural products, like mayonnaise, give it the nutrition it needs.”

She claims the results beat anything else she has tried.

“It’s the best results I’ve ever seen – more than coconut oil masks.”

The method, and the parts people get wrong

Cheap jars are out. Vicky advises buying high-end brands with short ingredient lists, applying before bed, and leaving it overnight.

In the morning she rinses with warm water, rubs the mayonnaise through, then shampoos twice with a natural brand.

“You’ve got to be gentle, though,” she said. “It’s not easy to get out and it does dry quite a bit.

But doing this when your hair is in need of some TLC, such as during summer or after swimming, is a must.”

Two rules she repeats: don’t brush your hair while the mask is on, and use a very good conditioner afterwards.

Once it’s rinsed out, she says, the smell goes completely.

She also times it around her salon visits.

She won’t let a hairdresser colour her hair, but she gets highlights twice a year, and the jar comes out beforehand.

“I’m going to do a mayonnaise mask twice before I go in,” she said in a clip that has passed 335,000 views and 4,000 likes.

“You want to start at the top and get it all over your hair.

I’m going to let this sit for 30 minutes, wash it, but then next Sunday, I will let it sit overnight and then wash it.”

The comments did what comments do

“You said mayonnaise? The thing you eat?” one person wrote.

Another: “I prefer ketchup tho.”

Some viewers already knew. “Yes! My nana told me years ago,” said Alana.

Kim offered an upgrade: “Mix egg yolk in with it…get it slightly warm before you apply. It’s great.”

One stayed practical: “I feel like you’d have to wash your hair about five times to get it out.”

Why It Matters

Kitchen-cupboard beauty is one of the cheapest content formats going, and it performs because it costs the viewer nothing to try.

Creators in the over-50 wellness space are building audiences on exactly this – free, slightly absurd, testable at home – while the brand-sponsored skincare tier fights over the same ad budgets.

Vicky’s mayonnaise video sits alongside a wider swing back to low-cost routines after years of ten-step regimens and £90 serums.

Her last viral trick was a hot towel pressed to the face for five minutes, which costs nothing at all and which she says makes people think she’s 20 years younger.

Expect more from the jar. She’s already booked her next highlights, which means two more masks before she sits in the chair.
