Kerry Adams did not scream, or throw anything, or send the 3am message.
She turned the thermostat to 28 degrees and left it there.
The 49-year-old from Staffordshire had just been dumped by her long-term partner.
The pair agreed to keep things civil while she looked for somewhere else to live, which lasted right up until he reportedly started seeing someone new.
That is when the pettiness began.
Twenty-eight degrees, all day, every day
The heating went first. Kerry knew the next bill would not be hers, so she stopped being careful with it.
“I left the heating on all day, every day and night, set at 28 degrees because I knew I wouldn’t be contributing to the next bill,” she told Creatorzine.
“It was like being in Ibiza but worth it.”
Then came the laundry. Her ex asked if she would put his dirty boxers in with the next wash.
She did not.
“I stuck his Calvin Klein and Armani boxers in the bin,” Kerry said.
The cupboard handles
The final act arrived during her last month in the house, and it is the one people cannot stop talking about.
The couple had agreed she could take anything she had paid for. Kerry read that generously.
She unscrewed every handle from the kitchen cupboards and packed them.
He noticed.
“He asked to buy back the cupboard handles but I said ‘you told me to take anything I paid for and I paid for them’,” she said.
“It was mostly done on the spur of the moment because I was upset. Looking back now, I find the situation funny, but I certainly didn’t at the time.”
Instagram had thoughts
Kerry’s relationship ended earlier this year, as reported by Creatorzine.
Months later she posted the whole story on Instagram, where it picked up thousands of likes and a queue of women offering their own confessions.
“When my friend and I were packing my things after my breakup, she took the pot of sugar so he couldn’t have a nice cup of tea in the morning,” said Rachel.
One commenter went further: “I monitored his MOT status until it ran out then coincidentally he was stopped by traffic police and also had two baldy tyres.”
“Yesss Kerry, being unhinged is part of the healing process,” added another.
Why it matters
Breakup content is one of the most reliable engines on Instagram and TikTok right now, and Kerry’s post shows why.
She was not performing for an audience when she did any of it.
The story worked because it already happened, to a real person, with specific details attached.
Creators chasing the same reaction with staged revenge skits tend to get caught out fast. Audiences can tell.
The comments did most of the work here, turning one woman’s post into a confessional thread.
That is the format doing the heavy lifting, not the algorithm.
Kerry says the breakup was the best thing that happened to her.
“Now, I would thank him because I genuinely believe that my life is better without him in it,” she said.
“I enjoyed my best summer in a long time. I have started to see friends again and meet new people. So yes, petty, but therapeutic too.”
